#1

@sam_nazarko As requested creating a new thread…

Issue:
Post July update all of my HDR content stop working and my Samsung TV not giving me the message that HDR Content playing.

Why issue with July update related to HDR:
I got one other Vero 4K box on old FW (June) and when playing with same TV, Samsung TV display message coming as “HDR Content playing”

TV Details:
SAMSUNG SUHD TV - KS8000 - 60’'
Link:http://www.samsung.com/us/televisions-home-theater/tvs/4k-suhd-tvs/60-class-ks8000-8-series-4k-suhd-tv-2016-model-un60ks8000fxza/

More Observations:

  • My 4k / 4k HDR / 2K videos playing but main issue is my Samsung TV not identifying the HDR content post this update.
  • I did add the below line and reboot but no luck…
    echo '444,10bit' > /sys/class/amhdmitx/amhdmitx0/attr
  • All HDR content post the update very dull in the screen and not showing the correct colour space what it used to.

Troubleshooting Help:

When a video playing what commands will help me to identify below cases as I can play around and compare.

  1. HDMI resolution (2k or 4K)
  2. File bits (8bit or 10bit)
  3. Refresh rate
    4.HDR content playing or not

Please help with above…

Hi

If you can follow the suggestions in this thread: 10bits support problem

and put them in a reply here, that will narrow down your issue

Maybe a far fetch, but it might be the solution in your case.

Did you update your Samsung TV to version 1180 recently or have auto-update on?
Because in that update they disabled the notification bar “HDR content displaying”.
Their forums are littered with complaints about this issue since version 1180.5

If you press the “info” on your remote, you can still see what is currently being played in what resolution and if it’s HDR.
Rollback to 1160.* and you should be okay.

That’s useful to know – I’m sure it will come up again in the future.

It seems Samsung are certainly not frightened to change things: they did something similar a few months ago which broke CEC and sent us on a wild goose chase

@Numiah You are 100% correct. My TV on latest FW as my TV set to auto update and same TV in Rumpus room with with another VERO 4K on older FW as I don’t have auto update.

I followed your instructions and I can confirm it’s TV related and I am glade we found the issue without going in to details.

Also with dull colours again it’s related to FW as i check each setttings and it seems to be FW updated TV having engergy savings in Medium as other TV have it as off.

Making this as resolved…

Also how can I write on the Samsung forum and do you have a link?

This is the first thing I stumbled upon when searching in my browsing history.

Glad to be of any help to both you and the Vero team.

I love my 4k to the max. It’s my absolute favorite media player.

Hi Guys

One more question… What command I can use to check if VERO4K sending 8bit or 10bit content to my TV?

Hi

I believe you also PM’ed me this.

If you set the output to 10-bit in rc.local then it will send a 10-bit signal.

Sorry @sam_nazarko for duplicate comms. Given you are busy though of getting the answer from someone else.

BTW Yes I do have the rc.local updated and this means all files will send 10bit content or only the files that support? Any specific command I use to double check?

That’s it.

If you set that option, the hdmitx will send a 10-bit signal for all content, including 8-bit content.
Some displays will tell you this, but not sure if your set will
