Red light on, Vero 4K doesn't start anymore

USB-C won’t work.

I’ve tested with a usb-usb cable and the red light in the vero turn on but no unit is found in windows device manager.

Make sure the cable is in the white port.

If OSMC ever gets a dedicated porn streaming app please call it Red light.

Tried in different computers Windows and mac and seems that there is no way to find it in the computer and the light still red. So I suppose that I can throw the vero up. Thanks for the help

@sam_nazarko could you send me the same instructions please? I’ve got a Vero 4K with a stuck red light and I can see it as a device in Windows.

Same issue here with Red light no boot etc. on a Vero 4k.
With a normal USB-A cable it shows up in windows device manager as GX-CHIP
Is this recoverable as well, if so can you PM me the details as well if so please.

I’ve sent these details.

Thanks but you linked to a 4k+ image and I have a 4k.

For the purpose of flashing the bootloader – this is interchangeable – we can install the correct bootloader after the device is booting.

Ahh ok, it’s just that in the instructions you put “Note that this is for 4K+ only.”
I’ll have a go

Hm, I seem to be suffering from the same issue. Vero 4k+ will no longer boot up (blank display, no ssh).

Timeline of what I did:

  • Successfully upgraded from 2020.10-1 to 2021.08-1 via apt dist-upgrade
  • After reboot FullHD was no longer an option in Video output. I was limited to only 480p/720p. Before the upgrade it worked fine.
  • After reboot there was no more display output. Waited for half an hour and SSH did not come back (device was not assigned a new IP, checked on router).
  • Tried to reinstall, but got nowhere. I prepared a USB drive with the image, it mounts just fine on PC (three files on the root of device), so that seems alright.

All I can think is that I somehow corrupted eMMC with forcing output to FullHD :\ Would appreciate a DM with instructions how I can debrick it. I have access to Linux and Windows systems.

Cheers

Do ou have another display you can test on?

Tested on a projector and PC monitor. Going to test on a new-ish model Philips TV in a few hours.

But I doubt it is booting since I can’t ping (and therefore SSH into) the device. Hoping the installer will be visible at least.

Yea, no go. Tried on two TVs, both give no signal. I’ll solder together a male-male USB cable tomorrow and see what dmesg shows when I plug the Vero into my laptop.

Well, had other obligations and put this on the sideburner for a while. I fixed all the outstanding issues and finally have FullHD working on latest Vero 4k OSMC release.

Postmortem:

  1. Don’t know why, but I could finally boot from USB stick and reformat the Vero 4k. I tried the same USB sticks before, but perhaps it was user error somewhere, really not sure what I messed up.
  2. FullHD did not work out of the box again. After flashing an older version from 2020 I tried to figure out what goes wrong. The issue is that EDID fails to read any data from the projector (Xiaomi Mijia ALPD 3.0). Tried with a 1 meter cable and it also failed.
2.1 The old version of OSMC fallbacked to allowing me to switch between 480p, 720p and 1080p.
2.2 The new version only allowed a fallback to only 480p and 720p.
2.3 EDID is read correctly by my laptop and can be dumped. Used the laptop to get the list of supported resolutions of the projector.
  3. Forced all known resolutions found by laptop by manually creating and populating /home/osmc/.kodi/userdata/disp_cap with the following content
480p60hz*
720p60hz
1080p60hz
1080p50hz
2160p30hz
2160p25hz
2160p24hz

Everything is fully working now. Strange how my laptop is able to read the EDID information, but Vero can not. Is this a known issue?

Can you connect the Vero to another display and see if the EDID can be parsed?
If you upload some logs, we may also be able to see why the parsing fails.

Sam

Hi,

My Vero 4K sutck with Red Light and doesn’t boot.
When I connected my Vero 4K to PC (Win). I see gx-chip.
Plz, can you send me instruction to reinstall Vero 4k.

Thanks.

You should open a support request regarding this first and outline what you were doing last with the device.
