Remote control issue since update

I have just installed the new update and a remote control problem I had before the update that was livable with has become un-usable.

I use a universal remote (URCMX980). With only certain files before the update the remote was very ‘sluggish’ it needed several presses to get it to respond when playing these files.

Since the update, sluggish has become no reponse, the situation is so bad that I have had to get the original vero remote out. Unless there is a work around I will need to roll back the upgrade (if that is possible).

Yes it is. Also has RF option

If you’re using the IR option I can understand what’s going on here and will elaborate shortly.

How does the RF functionality work? Via USB? If so - this will yield significantly better performance.

I have also found since the update, that to wake the Vero from suspend I can no longer use the MENU button my my universal remote, I have to use the original.

From my point of veiw, this update is a major issue. Prior to it I used my universal remote for everything, and the original was in the box. I now have to use it and the universal.

I will give it a few days for a solution, then I will have to roll back the update.

What kind of IR signals are you sending to the Vero from your remote (ie which remote is selected in the My OSMC add-on)?

Not 100% sure I set them up a few years ago. I found a file called vero codes maybee in my archive, so suspect they are the ones I used. But till the recent update apart froma bit of slow response with a few files, all was fine.

That was a lot more detailed than what I was looking for but I salute the extra effort. I programmed a Harmony to send out Xbox 360 codes and spent some time with the built in IR sensor on both an up to date Vero V as well as one running the build previous to the latest update. I couldn’t tell any difference in how either acted, nor did I find any difference in response during playback vs. just browsing the UI otherwise. I don’t have any URC remotes around to test with that but I wouldn’t imagine the actual signals being sent should be too different from my Harmony.

I did notice that the IR receiver on the Vero V seems to be rather particular about where your pointing the remote though. With the FLIRC USB IR receiver I normally use I can point my remote in any direction and the signal normally gets picked up. With the Vero V I have to be pointing mostly straight on the box for it to work. Can you test the situation with being very deliberate in pointing the remote directly at the V (with a clear line of sight to the front of it) and see if maybe this is where the issue is coming from?

Thanks for the thoughts, mine is a Vero 4k+, and apart from the odd file being a bit of a pain all was fine till the lastest update.

From the post above by sam_nazarko, looks like he some ideas on the issue. I do not think I need the update so will probably roll back.

Oops, missed that, sorry. That makes more sense then as I know there is some type of issue during playback on that devices that he had previously run into. I’m sure Sam can get that fixed up. On a personal note it might be worth looking into running the same receiver I am if you want a bit of an upgrade to the built in. You would not only get more sensitive reception but long-press support as well.

The fact you mentioned you have a Vero 4K + is interesting
We have poor performance during video playback due to IRQ handling.

I suspected this may have been exacerbated when we increased the minimum CPU frequency on Vero V. We did not change this on Vero 4K/4K+ but we did improve video performance and it will be hogging CPU time further.

Thanks my PC is windows so I have downloaded 18679_05 executable.
Can some kind person point me to a guide as what to do with the file and any backing up of settings I need to do before I roll back the update.

In the My OSMC add-on go to updates section (the cloud icon) >backups and set a backup location that is somewhere other than on the device itself (ie a network path, SD card, or USB storage) and then exit the add-on and reboot (to work around a bug that I don’t know if a fix has been released yet) and then after rebooting go back to the same place and tell it to backup in the updates>manual controls section of the add-on. Once you have successfully made a backup of your setup then you can use the osmc installer (found following the download link at the top of this site) on a PC to make installed media on a thumb drive or similar (note that this will erase anything currently on the drive) and during the walkthrough of the installer app it will as you if you want to download a image or load one of your own and this is where you can select an older image. Once you have the media made then plug the drive into your Vero and reboot. The install should start on its own and eventually get you to the initial configuration screens you saw when you first received your device. Go ahead and set your location, device name, and the rest of it till you get back to the home screen. At this point go back into the My OSMC add-on at updates>manual controls and tell it to restore pointing it to your backup you made at the start.

All worked fine, did not seem to need a reboot to do the backup, but I did one before and one after to be sure.

One scare and on oddity along the way.

It took ages to pair the remote to the vero, over 5 mins, thought it had hung.

The setting for the IR remote is not backed up, so had to reset that.
