Share files on 2 vero+'s

I have a spare 750gb hd already, but not sure about if it will permanently stay on. Don’t keep most things once I watch them anyway but will give it a try.

Re mysql I did enable it on both machines, with the lounge ip address on both and I did make a advancesettings.xml on the lounge vero but couldn’t remember how I did it when I tried on the bedroom one. Will have another go tomorrow. Is this something that is needed now ?

It depends on what you want to do. If your not going to have a library at all (ie you only play stuff from Videos or the file manager) then there is no reason to use MySQL. If you wanted to have separate libraries (ie you are pulling from the same set of files but they have to be updated separately with no shared watched status) then you don’t need MySQL. If you however wanted to have a single library with the same content and watched status on both, then MySQL has to be setup.

It is also not necessarily an either/or situation. I personally use a library for the bulk of my content but I do have some things that I only plan on watching once and then deleting. I keep a seperate folder in Videos for this content that does not get scraped.

If you setup the MySQL in My OSMC then you shouldn’t have to mess with an advancedsettings.xml file for that. I have been doing it the manual way for so long I keep forgetting that option is there.

First of all merry christmas to you all.
Since sharing files on my two Vero’s one of them (not the server) keeps running very slow particular when playing files or exiting file manager back to home screen. I don’t know if its a network problem or something else.
I have take some log’s and but don’t really know what to look for.
They are at
https://paste.osmc.tv/eqixejeyen
Does anyone know what could be the problem?

I moved your post to the thread that was already pertinent to this topic.

A good place to start would be to test the connection between the two machines…

Were you running that other non-stock stuff before you networked the two machines together? The system mount you made should have close to zero impact on the system and although a slow connection to a MySQL server will impact some of the menus it should not have much in the file manager. If your not going to actually use the shared database you could just remove the advancedsettings.xml and go back to using a local database if that is the issue.

well going by the figures my network is very slow

iperf Done.

My server is connected via wireless and the second vero by wired (power line)
will try changing the wired one first to wireless.

Powerline can be very flakey. I had a powerline connection to one of my Pi’s and had random crashes and hangs that were driving me crazy tracking down. I finally ran a cable to replace the powerline and have not had a crash or hang since.

If at all possible you will get the best stability by using cables.

unfortunately can’t do that as the modem is upstairs and the vero is downstairs.

just rebooted the vero and get the following results

a bit better, it seems it slows down over time.

15Mb/s is still very slow. Hard wire whenever you can, use seperate ssid’s for 2.4gghz and 5ghz on the wifi, and if using powerline it never hurts to reboot them if something starts slowing down.

Help,
did a backup and restore on my second Vero which didn’t work, so lost my settings for sharing.
As I had to start again I did a kodi reset and have got everything back except that shares. The server (Davesosmc) works and see’e the other (Bedroomosmc) ok but I cannot get the bedroom one to see the server files in MyMedia.
I ve put the following into the shares file
/media/MyMedia -fstype=cifs,rw,username=osmc,password=osmc,iocharset=utf8,uid=osmc,gid=osmc ://192.168.1.09/MyMedia/

and the following into the video part sources.xml

Movies and TV folders show up settings/media/video but I can’t add them in file manager/add source root filesystem/media as they don’t show up.
What have I missed doing?
Have tried refollowing the above advice but still not working.

Did you install autofs? Did you try to manually run automount to see if there are any errors?

Install and restart autos, and did run automount

It looks like it’s mounting OK. Can you see the files now?

ls -l /media/MyMedia
ls -l /media/MyMedia/Movies

osmc@Bedroomosmc : ~ $ ls -l /media/MyMedia
ls: cannot open directory ‘/media/MyMedia’: No such file or directory
osmc@Bedroomosmc : ~ $ ls -l /media/MyMedia/Movies
ls: cannot access ‘/media/MyMedia/Movies’: No such file or directory

Are you still running the automount command in a different window? What’s the output from that look like when you try the ls commands?

No I stopped and closed the auto mount window.
