Slow Python scripts in Krypton

I think this is related to my issue also:

All add-ons are very slow + some repos are not loading at all…
Can’t wait for the update

BTW my raspi 3 with OSMC became unresponsive due to this issue.
Is there a way to force this fix ?

Thanks!

We will release a fix for this soon.

It will land in our staging repository first, but we cannot provide support for this.

Hi Sam,
I think this is a general problem, I’m not the only one affected.
Where can I find this staging repository and how can I get it installed on my pi?
Or should I wait for the march update, will this fix be included there?

We are aware of the problem.

It’s resolved in the March update. I would not advise using the staging repository unless you are familiar with OSMC.

Hi Sam,

Do you have any timing regarding the March update?

Thanks,
Lucian

When it’s ready, it will be announced on the blog. We are adding more fixes and improvements for the update. A new build of Kodi with these improvements should hit the staging repository quite soon however.

I updated to 17.1 but this bug seems not yet (fully) solved.

Same here, a soon as I try to start any video addon the CPU % goes haywire :frowning:
the osmc logo does a spin and then stuck…
System-journal process is using 100% of one core constantly.
And kodi freezes with osmc loading logo in the middle, the only way to recover from this is to restart mediacenter service( restart kodi).
Shouldn’t the march update fix this issue too?

The fix for “Performance issue with Krypton xbmcgui.ListItem methods”
Issues · xbmc/xbmc · GitHub should be fixed.

This issue should never cause a freeze requiring a restart - that sounds like an unrelated bug.

What is the addon and did it work better with Jarvis?

So far I tried YouTube, which was working with jarvis and no longer working with krypton.
Second one was TED talks, same behavior.
To me looks like any addon that try to use python generates the issue.
This is related to slow python issue.

As one of the initial reporters I will verify after I upgrade my OSMC to 17.1

As luci84tm pointed out, I am affected of this, too.

I verified the slow performance while opening OSMC-settings addon. I’m using the March update and provided complete debug log. Maybe it helps finding the issue.

I installed fresh OSMC march edition on a new rpi3 and this problem is not there.
Youtube addon woks as well…
I’m wandering what is different?

I verified today with the 17.1 based OSMC and all seems to be fast again.

Can you confirm if this was an update to 17.1 or a complete reinstall to 17.1?

Thanks.

There were improvements to add-on performance in the March update

Sam

This was via the official March update.

I’m not sure what is the difference from an rpi updated to March and a new installed one.
On the last one, this issues are not present, as I mentioned even addons are working normally.
Any hints where to look for difference?
Python version, additional related python packages that kodi might use …?
btw: reimagining is not an option for me

Well, I updated via the normal March update, so that should just work out fine for you too.
