Stuttering video

The log doesn’t seem to be valid. Can you re-upload?

it seems i mis-typed the address, i have edited the post and it should now be valid.

I assume you experienced this issue trying to play back an episode of Arrow. It looks like you’re still playing it from the network, so we can’t rule that out.

Can you also show your audio configuration and describe your setup?

Sam

Thats not correct, the test was done from a file i copied to the internal memory from USB stick using file manager, in fact it was form here i played the file also.

in terms of set up, the vero 4k connects direct into my new Denon 2300 AVR using a high quality HDMI lead thats supports HDMI 2.0 etc…

the config is currently set to HDMI for the decoder, Passthrough is enabled and all standards are ticked as the AVR supports all said standards.

Okay, I saw:

16:19:12.979 T:4114558976 NOTICE: VideoPlayer: Opening: nfs://192.168.0.7/nfs/3Tb/TV/Arrow/Arrow.S05E22.1080p.WEB-DL.DD5.1.H264-LiGaS.mkv
16:19:12.979 T:4114558976 WARNING: CDVDMessageQueue(player)::Put MSGQ_NOT_INITIALIZED

But it looks like you also tried to play a file called Test.mkv.

Do you have Adjust Refresh Rate enabled?
Do you have Sync Playback to Display enabled?
Is your AVR showing the Dolby Digital light, i.e. is it being passed through? Make sure you have 5.1 channels configured.

If it’s a problematic clip, a small sample file so I can test locally may help.

Adjust refresh rate is set to start/stop, sync playback is not enabled and the AVR is showing audio is passed through, i have the channels set to 7.1 albeit i don’t have a 7.1 speak set up.

I honestly don’t think its the file because it seems to be happening on a number of different files that all playback perfectly on other devices.

I will add that the problems is more pronounced when playing back something in h265 as opposed to h264 which most of my library is.

referring to my opening post I’d like to say that this issue is still happening, even after the latest update.
It doesn’t happen to all video’s. Here another media info example of a file where it does happen. If you want the exact filename (so you could download and test it yourself) I can send you a PM.

The file doesn’t look like anything exotic so I don’t think the problem resides there. This is quite an old thread so I am not fully familiar with it.

I thought we had fixed most of the slight stutter issues in July.

Does enabling sync playback to display help?
Is there any kind of pattern to the files?

Sam

“Does enabling sync playback to display help?”
That’s already enabled.
I don’t really know about a pattern. It doesn’t happen that often (or I don’t see it while it may happen) so it’s difficult to track.
Do you need to me to write down (and provide the mediainfo) of each file where I see this happening?
Or could I provide you with the file where it does happen for sure (like the ones I already posted the media info from).

That would be perfect.

Sam

Not sure to what you said “perfect” the first bit of my post or the second?

<removed this part as it’s not related to the issue we discuss in this topic>

Complete logs usually give more clues but looks like a potential buffering issue here.

I’ll look how and if I can raise the loglevels without hogging the system.
Buffering as in getting the data from my NAS? Because the buffer is always several minutes ahead, even when this strange slowdown happens. I specifically looked for that by pausing and looking at the buffer.

Shouldn’t cause performance degradation.

Show your advancedsettings.xml.
VBR on high bitrate material can cause issues but usually only on 4K content.

I have a fix in the works

Sam

Just to avoid doubts have you tried to play the file from the Vero4K directly to just see if it is replicable?

It doesn’t happen always at the same time or in the same file or in every file so it’s very difficult to know upfront in which file it will happen so I can put it on the vero4k itself.
Maybe I’ll put the next file I watch on the device so see if it doesn’t happen.

At least I’ll look at the FAQ about how to raise the loglevels.

I have frame skips and drops on 1080p HEVC files. If I reboot vero 4k, they are gone. But if I turn off the tv and turn on they come back, and then I need to reboot vero again.

Later I’ll open a thread with more info about it. Probably it’s a similar issue

I see I was confused.
This topic is about stuttering video in some videos and can be seen when the camera is panning.

The other issue is occasional slowmo video. This post: Stuttering video - #31 by Vince35 is actually about the slowmo issue! So has nothing to do this with topic. I’ll post it in the appropriate topic.

Then the 3rd issue I have is even more occasional (can’t remember is there’s already a topic on it) and that is that there is sometimes (like once every 3 or 4 files) a sudden frame skip. And then only once in during playing that file. So very very occasional. It’s best described as when in Fight Club you know Brad explains how he puts 1 frame within a movie (with graphical content) so you see that frame suddenly. Should I create a new topic for it if I can’t find it?
It’s by the way very very difficult to register as it’s very fast and rare. But since I’ll raise my loglevels perhaps I’ll catch this as well.

I have the same/a similar issue.

On pretty much every h.265 encoded file that I watch, relatively frequently there’s a half second to a second or so of frame stuttering, for lack of a better description. It’s like the fps drops way down for that short time, before going back to being smooth.

Don’t think it happens with h.264 content, but don’t watch much of that lately. Once I try to get more info on this, I’ll check some h.264 content out.

One thing to note is that it definitely/I’m pretty sure it wasn’t happening a few months back, when I first got the Vero 4K in july. Only really noticed it last months or so.

I’ve not got any logs or tested in different ways yet, other than confirming that it is not the file, as it plays perfectly from my NAS on my PC, and the stuttering happens at different points on re-views.

But yeah, at the minute Vero 4K + h.265 isn’t looking great when I watch it. Even my wife commented today that the video was going funny… if she saw it, it must be bad! Need to test it out on my other Vero 4K too.

Sam - should I start a new thread for this, or continue in this one?

Also got another unrelated issue, which I’ll start a new thread for.

Logs and sample would probably give us some clues.

Try local playback too. Could be as simple as a buffering issue

Sam
