System really slow

Can someone help me sort my system out.
I have 2 Vero+'s. one in my lounge which I use as master and one in my bedroom. The lounge one has a sd card connected which I save my files on so I can view them on either. Both use similar setups.
Both are running very slow, sometimes extremely slow. Even the remote sometimes takes a few seconds to register key presses. They are connected to the modem by 2000 Mbps power line adapters, so should be fast enough. I have also tried connecting by wireless but just the same. If I try testing using speedtester it normally fails with a ping of 1800000 or very occasionally it shows about 5 mps. My laptop without VPN shows 132 mps and with vpn 121mps.
Logs on https://paste.osmc.tv/ozirejehey

As a first test I suggest to check network with iperf3 between the two Vero’s and between each Vero and your Notebook.

Secondly your logs are full of openvpn warnings
2021-06-03 10:37:45.202 T:3769610464 NOTICE: Wed Jun 2 14:37:05 2021 AEAD Decrypt error: bad packet ID (may be a replay): [ #11 ] -- see the man page entry for --no-replay and --replay-window for more info or silence this warning with --mute-replay-warnings
So I would suggest to do tests without openvpn active.

Thanks for reply. Cant remove at the moment as wife has commandeered the tv.
But using terminal between the 2 devices I get

Which looks rubbish speed.
I connected vpn using openvpn and a profile configured from vpnunlimited site.
Will try a different one.

That is not good, was that with the Powerline adapters? Powerline Adapters are know to be troublesome.

You definitely need to sort that out, you have hundreds of log entries in one second that surely impacts performance of the system itself.

Cant remember how I left the connection. Think its on the power line. Is there any way I can check using terminal as if I ask to change the tv again I will be having bread and water for lunch :unamused:

Its OK this mornings finished. both server and slave are on wireless and vpn disabled

Just checked iperf with server on power line and its better but still not great.

That really looks bad for wifi. Is it 2.4Ghz?

No its 5ghz.
Have both on powerline as the speed seems better on that, but that’s the speed I’m getting. Also having VPN back on now doesn’t seem to affect it, like it was before.
This is on Powerline and with vpn on.

Well for 1080p that might just work.

Is there anything else I can do to get it faster?
Not much difference between wireless and Powerline and VPN only slows it down a little if any.
Will check and see if modem is causing it, but its reasonably new and fast. Netgear R8000

Is your 5Ghz network on a separate SSID?

Sam

Hi Sam, No I don’t think so. All the connected devices show up on the same connected screen and they all have the same password.
not sure if that’s an option but will check.

This is probably the quickest way to improve things.

Just checked and there are 3 networks one 2.4 Ghz, and 2 x 5 Ghz ones. all have ssid enabled.
Should have realised as they show up as different network names.
The vero’s are on 5 Ghz although at the moment they are on the powerline connection.
Was thinking of reloading the osmc software and reloading the other stuff one by one and checking network in-between. But this will take a bit of time to do.

Did they work OK before?
Something may have changed in your environment.

Sam

it has worked in the past but never properly. When I tried to run speedtest in the past it always shows the ping as 1800000 and failed to display a download reading.
Recently it seems the system has slowed down even more. The master vero takes a second or more to respond to key presses and the slave one does the same and most times playback across the network constantly buffers.

It’s possible that the spamming vpn messages could cause or at least exacerbate this behavior

How do I stop them?
I’ve downloaded a new openvpn file.
