[TESTING] Linux 4.9 kernel and improved video stack for Vero 4K / 4K +

Hi grahamh. Yes, it’s the same when I try to play directly from the NFS share. Also, there are no issues when I disable passthrough and let the Vero decode the audio.

Regarding the green screen issue, I don’t think it has been fixed as have had it twice in as many days. Both were on 4k/HDR movies. I did not capture logs, sorry.

Are you running the latest version? Can you post some logs?

Looks like I was on 10.7 and 10.8 is available . Had been updating via myOSMC rather than command. Let’s see if sorted now. Ta

Only for confirming, the latest kernel version is: Linux osmc 4.9.113-29-osmc, is this correct?

Thanks!

That’s correct

I keep having issue with a black screen. Vero is still working as I can access it through ssh and torrents can download using the Tranmission app.

I rebooted a week ago and have been watching 4 or 5 movies since.
Yesterday I watched 1 movie. Today I switch on TV and have a black screen. My TV recognizes there is a connection. But the Vero shows a black screen (today with a green stripe running from top to bottom down the middle).

When I use grab-logs -A I get:

osmc@osmc:~$ grab-logs -A

Logs available at https://paste.osmc.tv/

there are no logs: the above link is written as paste.osmc.tv/< html>
I will reboot now using sudo reboot 0

logs after reboot: https://paste.osmc.tv/jizesanuze

Could this be happing because of the Aeon Nox Silva skin I use?

One day after previous post very crashed for real. I had a frozen image on the TV but no connection to the Vero.

Hi @sam_nazarko
After having the cec and resolutions working well, I went away over Christmas and left the TV in standby and the Vero running. When I took the tv out of standby the resolution had reverted to only 720p and 480p being available ond the cec not working.
I hadnt had a chance to get back to it until now. I had done several reboots to no avail and last night I unplegged the tv and the vero (left them connected by hdmi but no power to either) and the result is still the same.

Thanks

Tried a new HDMI cable or different HDMI port? The EDID looks very corrupted.

I have in the past with this problem but I will try again. I think sam said it was a race condition causing it originally. The same hdmi cable works fine with a rpi3b+.
I will drag one up though

What is the make and model of TV?

There are a couple of problematic models I can think of.

Samsung ua82nu8000
Thanks @sam_nazarko

Great – thanks.

Can you reproduce this reliably?
If you boot up, then plug the HDMI cable in, is the EDID read correctly?

Do warm boots work OK, but cold boots don’t?

Trying to narrow some things down

Sam

It happens more often than not. It was fine after the last 2 updates until just after Christmas. Then i haven’t gotten it to work since. Multiple reboots and powering tv off etc

I suspect that I know why – there’s a commit I removed to read EDID very aggressively.
Looks like it may need to go back in for some problematic TVs – but I will see if I can think of a cleaner approach

I’ll let you know when something is ready to test.

Thanks very much Sam

No problem – for now you can force an EDID, or just leave the device on; and plug in HDMI after booting. If memory serves, this solves the problem.

I was going to force the edid when it was working but thought i wouldn’t need it now lol. I’ll capture it when i get it going again. I’ll try the hot plug
Cheers again

Actuality Sam the vero is never turned off and the tv is only turned off to standby. Sometimes when i come back is just gone low res and no cec
