Vero V dead?

After a good year of pretty much faultless use my V5 seems to be dead or at least totally unresponsive. Is there a way to “safety pin” it back or is it a lost cause? It was running the latest software and kodi and was last seen playing with light sabres a few days ago.

I have tried the obvious like power out then in after 30 seconds, trying the remote but there isn’t much else to try. If this is the case do I need to send it back for some magic re-incarnation or are we looking at a replacement? It also does not show in the routers ip addresses. Perhaps a power supply issue? I need to check that actually.

Thoughts?

Tim

Most likely cause, try another power supply with the same specs (5V/3A).
Or you can also power it with a USB A-A Cable (with power unplug.

Do any lights come up? Check the optical port on the back too.

If you have a USB-A to USB-A cable you could try powering from a laptop or PC. A USB-C to A cable will not work.

I thought the specs were: 5V / 2A / 10W - 5,5mm x 2,1mm?

Unfortunately not the power supply, measured with a voltmeter, its giving 5.3v. I haven’t got a USB to USB type a cable to see uf its the power circuitry somehow :pensive: So anything else to try?

Just tried it again with power supply in and then out and back in. It does appear dead unless its an HDMI output issue as there is no video signal either.

Forgot to say no lights at all even on the optical connector.

Any more suggestions?

The problem many times when power supplies fail, is that they lose the ability to maintain voltage while under load. Checking static voltage with a meter does not rule out the issue unfortunately.

Hmmm … going to have to hunt for a power supply then or a usb to usb cable.

Thanks for the input so far guys.

Yes correct it is 2A, I got my power supplies mixed up

After purchasing another 5v 3A power supply and plugging in we have nothing unfortunately. I think itsreally is the v5 unit that has gone awol. Unless we have any other ideas I think it needs returning. Next steps please :slightly_smiling_face:

Answering Sam’s question?

Lol … missed that … nope … no lights front or back which in this case is blue cross and optical red. Nothing …

The Vero V doesn’t have a blue cross on it. Are you sure it is a Vero V?
Did you try powering it via a USB-A cable?

Hiya … firstly I do know its a Vero V (I made an error on the blue cross light on the front) as I own both a V4+ AND a V5. It was late and I wasn’t thinking properly. I have now ordered a male to male USB A cable to test what can only be the final test for power.

Did you try the PSU from the V4+?

Nope … as why wouldn’t a brand new power brick work?.. It really isn’t that specific is it? I will just to satisfy my curiosity if I can locate it…

OK getting slightly fed up here …

The V5 does not show any sign of life ie video output or red optical light at the rear with the following

Original power supply
New power supply
Vero 4K+ power supply
USB A to A cable, either socket

The Vero 4k+ works with the following as indicated by a red boot cross at the front AND red optical light at the rear

Original power supply
New power supply
V5 power supply
USB A to A cable

I afraid to say the V5 looks dead to me. What next?

OK. In that case I suggest contacting support@osmc.tv with your order # so we can check this for you.

Done and just for the record the information is here too.

Order #44252 was placed on September 23, 2023and is currently Completed.

Many thanks

After that period of time it would not be in warranty. But I’ll pick your email up and see what we can do.
