Vero V - Forgotten SSH password - reset?

I changed the root password, saved it to my pc, but then the PC died. I now need to ssh into the OSMC box to set the permissions of a EXT4 hdd I want to connect.

Is there a way to either:

  1. Change the SSH password via the kodi interface?
  2. Set the permissions of the hdd via the interface?
  3. Reset the OMSC box to revert to the factory settings?

thanks and merry Christmas!

Did you change the password for the user root or user osmc? If you just changed the password for root you can do all necessary steps via user osmc and using sudo

Hi @fzinken I think it was for the root user, I had ssh’d into the machine from my pc so I could set up the original hdd and get access to it from the PC. At that time I changed the osmc:ipaddress ssh password from osmc to somehing nice and secure and saved it to my PC. The PC then died :expressionless:

So can you still login using the osmc account or you forgot that one too?

See this thread - How do I reset forgotten password on Vero4K - #2 by JimKnopf

Should be the same process for Vero-V as for 4K.

That is a very good question! I think I changed the osmc:osmc password.

@amritx1 Try the link @thechrisgregory mentioned. It might be necessary to connect the USB keyboard to the ‘black’ USB port of the Vero V.
If you changed both the root AND the osmc user passwords and cannot remember them, you’re doomed … in that case it’s time to reinstall the device. See the ‘Download’ link on top.

No you are not doomed, you forgot about the magic solution.

@amritx1 try this if the others are not working
