Vero V remote not pairing or working

Hello!
Our Vero V remote doesn’t work - battery is a few months old (and the blue LED is visible) - re-pairing doesn’t work.
Fortunately, CEC works - browsing the settings I can’t see any active driver for the internal RF adapter… Is it possible the driver needs re-installing, or is it a hardware thing?

I ought to add - there’s nothing in the USB ports, just power, HDMI & RJ45.

I’ll have a look at this for you shortly

Is there anything connected to one of the usb ports of the Vero V?

Nothing in any of the USB ports

What about the USB dongle for the remote?

I don’t have an external dongle, so have been using the internal one with zero issues for 11 months.

It looks like the dongle may be problematic.
Can you test a USB thumb drive on the USB2 port and ensure that is detected?

Yes - a usb stick detected on the usb port straight away.

Ok. Sounds like the receiver is problematic. We can send you a replacement. You can contact support@osmc.tv with your order number to arrange this

Thanks Sam

Hi Sam. Just thought I’d chime in here on this one…

A while ago I ran into the exact same issue where the remote stopped working on my Vero V, and re-pairing didn’t work at all. Replacing the battery made no difference either.
I opened the Vero and removed the internal dongle which I then connected to a USB port on my PC. I was still unable to get it to pair, or move the cursor around a notepad text file. Luckily I had an old dongle lying around from when I bought a seperate OSMC remote control for a Raspberry Pi years ago. I plugged that dongle into the same PC USB port and was able to get the remote to pair, and navigate around a notepad text file.
I plugged the working dongle into the USB2 port on the outside of the Vero V, put the original battery back into the remote, and have had no problems since. (Kept it external for easy swapping in future if needed).

Is there a listing in the OSMC shop that allows purchacing the remote dongel on it’s own?
I’d just like to have a spare lying around in case one of my three Vero remote dongles pack up.

Not sure how that could work. An OSMC remote from five years ago would have a different VID/PID and this would cause problems with the button mapping if you were even able to pair it. But the previous dongle provider went bust during the pandemic and we had to seek a replacement manufacturer.

We can supply a replacement receiver for the current version of remote; but not older remote revisions.

I may have got the age of the dongle incorrect as I have been moving Veros and remotes around over the years. However, the dongle that was internal on the V5 is in the bin, and the one I’ve fitted externally works fine. The remote I’m using is the one that came with the V5 (I think, lol) but it does look like the one in the shop with the vol+ and vol-. I’ve just had a look (found another V4K+ in the garage!) and I have 4 remotes that look like the shop version and 1 with the << and >> in the same button location. Is ther any way to visually identify the “age/generation” of a remote?

The VID/PID of the dongle is the determining factor.
The remote solution on Vero V is new and unique to previous remotes.

There were also changes we introduced to remotes over the years that weren’t visual – for example the low battery warning on screen.

I don’t recommend binning anything – if it is problematic it would be good to look at it.

It’s important to keep dongles and remotes together as pairing them with an incorrectly matching remote dongle will give unexpected behaviour for some buttons.

Hey Sam - no replacement dongle received yet… Do we think Royal Mail lost it?

Literally just flopped through the letter box… Thanks again Sam!
