Vero V remote not pairing or working

Which USB port are you using the tuner in?
Is it externally powered?

I think for the test attached it was the USB3 one - but I’m sure I’ve had it in the USB 2 one at times. It worked fine in my Vero 4K+, and doesn’t have an external power input (and it’s 20 years old) so I didn’t think it would matter. It’s an AverMedia A825 like this https://www.pccasegear.com/products/15344/avermedia-a825-avertv-twinstar-dual-dvb-t-usb-tuner

Can you try both ports and confirm?

Cheers

Sam

Absolutely - noting that with no remote my testing method is just via the TVHClient app on my phone.

Here’s the log from plugging into the USB2 port: https://paste.osmc.tv/fulefimite
Here’s the log from plugging into the USB3 port: https://paste.osmc.tv/efiyufopun

The result in TVHClient was the same, “No program data available” for all channels.

Have you tried the TVHClient when it was connected to the USB2 port? Because in that logs seems the Tuner is found.

Feb 02 22:17:06 o2mc kernel: usb 1-2: dvb_usb_v2: 'AVerMedia Twinstar (A825)' successfully initialized and connected

Interesting - thank you - but yes, I did try it with both, and as I said, it showed the same result about “No program data available” as on the other port.

To be clear - whilst I am certainly keen to get the TVHClient working, my bigger problem is the lack of remote. I also tried plugging in a little usb mouse dongle, to use a mouse instead, and that didn’t work either. Not sure which USB port I tried that on - I could try both again if you like?

EPG data can take some time to populate and sometimes does not populate for all channels, but do the channels actually play back?

Ah, right. I tried playing one channel and it didn’t - but I’m not sure which USB port that was sorry. I’ll re-test playing, on both ports, and test the logitech mouse via both ports, and report back later today. Thanks

Cold Reboot (shut down and reapply power) when you reseat the tuner. It doesn’t take kindly to hot swapping currently…

Thanks - cold reboots is what I’ve been doing when swapping.

Ok - this time, in the USB2 slot, the EPG came up immediately (as I’m used to it doing), and playing things worked perfectly too. https://paste.osmc.tv/awodikucor

In the USB3 slot, the EPG is still there, but there’s a “Connection failed” message, and no “Play” icon to play the channels. https://paste.osmc.tv/diwogemuri

Thanks, a USB mouse does also work with the USB2 port. Also in this log, re-pairing the remote. So, you hold the Home and OK buttons down for about 3 seconds - then the blue light comes on for 30 seconds, and it’s done? https://paste.osmc.tv/ebuxosuwew

Hope that helps!

The blue light should come on for a few seconds and then blink.

Thanks Sam, that’s more like the behaviour I expected.

So where to from here? My current impression is that of the three USB ports,

  • the internal one isn’t working
  • the external USB3 one isn’t working
  • the external USB2 one is working.

Ideally I’d have 2 working, one for remote, one for my twin TV tuner. I tried with a cheap unpowered 4 port hub, and a mouse worked in it, and TVheadend seemed to connect to it (EPG displayed, said connected) - but when I tried to watch something, it said “no adapter free” - which I suspect means there wasn’t enough watts to power either adapter. https://paste.osmc.tv/tenagudewe

Have you any ideas what might be wrong with the Vero V?

Given this happened two months out of warranty, I guess I could either
a) buy a powered hub, extract the remote dongle from inside the Vero V and put it and the tuner on the one working USB port; or less likely
b) I have access to a hot air re-work station - might there be some components I could replace to fix it; or perhaps
c) if I bought a new Vero V, what chance is there that it would break the same way?

I suppose I could also go back to my 4K+ which had no such issues - but I gather that will be unsupported soon.

Thanks for your thoughts!

The internal USB port is USB2.0 (no need to have USB3 for a remote controller which has very low IO).

So if your USB2 external port was also problematic, it would make sense to a degree that the USB2 hub has failed. But having two opposite ports like that failing is very odd.

I’m not sure what could have caused this. The hub would be a quick and dirty solution for sure, but I’m interested in working out what’s happened here and see what we can do.

Do you have any USB equipment that has a light on it, like a flash drive? I would be interested if there is power coming from the USB3 port.

Yesterday, I updated one of my VeroV’s to Oct24.
The internal dongle immediately stopped working. The ext usb 2.0 works, but not the ext usb 3.0 (it
does not work with any dongles).
I can live with just the ext usb 2.0, but it might be a software/update problem for int usb 2.0.

Which version did you update from?

Did you install the version of OSMC you updated from?

Sam

My Vero-V completely ‘lost’ all knowledge of my OSMC Remote the other day, after updating to a intermediate staging repository development version of the software. I ‘fixed’ this by reinstalling/reconfiguring the osmc-remote (config).

If you can use a USB keyboard or mouse with your Vero try the following:

Check what input peripherals are associated in the settings i.e.

settings > system > input > peripherals

This will normally show ‘OSMC RF Remote’ in the list of configured remotes (the ‘CEC Adapter’ should also be there too).

If the ‘OSMC RF Remote’ is not listed (as it was in my case) then it needs to be added/reconfigured i.e.

settings > My OSMC > remotes<icon>

look for ‘osmc-remote-lircd’, select it and ‘confirm’ the change in the dialog.

I then restarted the Vero, and the osmc remote contol was functional again.

I hope this helps.

That doesn’t make much sense because that remote section in My OSMC is for IR remotes. The reason you see an OSMC one is for the original OSMC remote which was IR.

Well, that’s exactly what I witnessed and did to make the osmc rf remote appear again in peripherals list.

Perhaps the reboot helped ?

Linux version 4.9.269-76-osmc (root@jenkins) (gcc version 10.2.1 20210110 (Debian 10.2.1-6) ) #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Jan 21 00:17:41 UTC 2025

I’m not sure as to the previous version, but I think it was either May or Aug. I’m pretty sure it was
an update.
I’m happy to send any diagnostics.

It would have been the reboot. The remote section of My OSMC only changes a symlink for the lircd configuration running on the OS side and the OSMC remotes don’t run through lircd. The input section in Kodi’s settings should also be completely unrelated as it is only popping up when Kodi sees one of the vid:pid’s that I configured it for. Your dongle went MIA for some reason which will make that setting entry disappear.
