Vero V remote not pairing or working

Did you contact support?

Vero 5, from the soft launch, September 20, 2023.

I’m posting this in case it’s helpful to someone else, or yourself sam in diagnosing the issue.

So I experienced the same issue, my USB3 port stopped working first, only noticed when my usual USB stick I’d plug in failed to mount a few months ago, so all I did was use the USB2 port and it was all fine, so I lived with the none working USB3 port. (What I do also experience when I plug in a USB device is that the TV display flicks very briefly to black and then displays the osmc interface again)

Then the remote stopped working, I also lived with this for a while as I could use my Sony TV remote via the TV to control the vero box.

Tried all the usual, changed the battery, took the battery from my working vero 4k remote, tried to re-pair the device nothing changed. And yes, during all this I had a nice blue light flashing away on the end of the remote every time I pressed a button or solid light when trying to pair.

Today, I decided to just open it up to take the adapter out from inside. Feel I need to state, do this at your own risk. There’s four screws under the feet and then the top pops off with a few clips holding it in place, don’t rip the top away as the aerials are attached on short wires.

I took the adapter out and have tired it in both the external USB3 and USB2 ports.

Frankly my USB3 port seems dead… and I’ll assume the internal port (didn’t try plugging anything else into that before closing it back up), as the remote now works again, I’ve plugged the adapter into the external USB2 port and the remote is working fine.

I’ve actually had to plug a USB splitter into the external USB2 port as well to get two USB ports, but the remote worked fine with the adapter plugged in directly and also via the adapter now.

A more complete log off unplugging the adapter from USB 2 and plugging it into the USB 3 port whilst pressing the UP button on the Sony TV remote inbetween.

PXL_20260130_153654236

Please excuse the broken resolution, I got tired of trying to compress a gif to under 4mb.

I found an old USB stick that lights up.

My hand is partially blocking the USB light to first time I plug it back into the USB3, but the second time you can see it clear flash the once and that is it. Doesn’t register at all.

Edit:

I’ve also tried restoring the device to any earlier software version from Index of /osmc/osmc/download/installers/diskimages

I went back to OSMC_TGT_vero5_20230807.img.gz, made no difference, USB 3 port still didn’t work. And FYI anyone else thinkin of trying this, I had to reconfigure everything, it formats the device.

I don’t know if I should respond here, but my remote control is no longer working on my Vero. However, it does work again with the old remote from the 4K + dongle.

I’m going to correct assume you’ve done all the obvious like replace the battery and try pair it again?

Does the USBv3 (front most USB) port still work for you? If you plug a memory stick it, it mounts? Test it mounts first in the USBv2 port.

home + ok did the trick.. RTFM :see_no_evil_monkey: (tried to pair only with home button) (both usb-ports working just fine)

thanks for the reply

If you don’t use the remote for an extended period of time, it can need re-pairing to function again.

Sam

Further update having gone through my collection of USB sticks.

I ordered a “SSK 256GB USB C USB3.2 Gen2 Solid State-Drive” (B0C36CXVP4) and I can confirm it is working in the front usb 3 port.

It’s the only USB3.2 Gen2 device I own it would seem! Other memory sticks continue to not mount in the front USB3 port, whereas this SSK device mounts fine and is functioning as expected.

So it would appear for me at the moment that the USB3 port supports USB3.2 Gen2 devices and not older USB versions, I’ll let someone explain to me how that works!

When I find a USB extension cable I’ll try the USB3.2 Gen2 device in the internal USB port.

That doesn’t make any sense to me.

Sam

To me neither. I’ll try make a clear video evidencing it all sometime in the next week.

I’ve a 325mb video demonstrating this. What’s the best way to share this with yourself?

Sorry for the late reply. Can you upload it on something like Google Drive or Dropbox?

Sam

I’ve messaged you the link.

Watched it. So the black drive (SSK Drive) works in either port
But the orange coloured drive only works in the USB2 port?

What’s the spec of the orange drive you’re trying to attach?

Got a link?

Sam

That’s correct, the “SSK 256GB USB C USB3.2 Gen2 Solid State-Drive” drive works in either port.

The orange/red coloured drive only works in the USB2 port, that’s a very old “sdcz6-2048” SanDisk 2GB drive, as you can see in the video is the OSMCInstall drive I used to format the Vero5 back to a very early OS version before updating it again as versing the OS made no difference.

I used that drive as you can visibly see the single flash of the light when you connect it to the USB3 port instead of the constantly flashing light when connected to the USB2 port.

The second black USB stick in the video that also only works in the USB2 port is an old branded promotional USB stick that when thinking about it wasn’t very helpful as it’s all very generic details when you try identify it, it functions the same as the orange SanDisk, only in the USB2 port at the back.

Is there anything else you’d like me to test? I have more old USB2 drives lying around.

It’s old! SDCZ6-2048-A11-BN9 | SDCZ6-2048-A11-BN9 - SanDisk 2GB Cruzer Micro USB 2.0 Flash Drive - 2 GB - USB - External that in red, not sure what the “-A11-BN9” stands for.

Is the internal port functioning for either (or both) drives?

USB Device External USB2 External USB3 Internal
SSK Mounts okay Mounts okay Nothing, no signs of life
Red SanDisk 2GB Mounts okay Single light flash, doesn’t mount Single light flash, doesn’t mount
Black Promo USB Mounts okay Nothing, no signs of life Nothing, no signs of life

Less signs of life from the internal port. I can’t get any of the three USB sticks to mount. The only sign of life is the single light flash on the Red SanDisk, the same symptoms as the external USB3 port.

I’ve sent you a message with the video in.
