Vero V Shuts Down when Video is Stopped

I use my Vero V solely for 3-D MKV/MVC files served from a Synology NAS. The Vero runs into a Yamaha AVR then to a JVC projector. A problem has recently manifested: whenever I stop a running video, whether via remote or via popup menu, the Vero appears to be shutting down or going into standby mode.

Instead of Stop returning me to the video menu, the screen goes black and no remote button pushes bring it back. After a minute or so the AVR’s default background appears, indicating that it is no longer receiving signal from the Vero. I have to hard reboot the Vero to get a signal back.

The problem appeared suddenly and is reproducible each and every time I stop running video. Pausing and restarting videos works fine.

Much appreciation in advance for any help.

A couple follow on data points:

  • I verified the issue is not in the AVR, as going straight from the Vero V to the display exhibits the same issue.
  • The issue only appears with 3-D content. Transitioning from 2-D playback back to the menu works just fine. It is only when pressing STOP while playing 3-D content that the problem occurs. (Note that if I press the RETURN button while 3-D content is playing, it returns to the menu just fine. However, the video is still playing in the background, which is not a satisfactory workaround.)
  • When the screen goes blank, it appears that the Vero V is still accepting input, as I can still hear the sounds it makes when buttons on the remote are pressed. However, as previously stated, no button presses restore the video.
  • I can’t say the exact date the behavior started, but it never did this before and I have made no hardware or software changes in the interim. I do have auto-update on, so perhaps this broke in a recent release?

Sorry for the late response

You have:

Adjust display refresh rate: On start / stop ===> Default: Off

Can you try change this to Always?

Sam

Unfortunately that did not change the unwanted behavior.

So only with 3D?
What happens if you bypass the Lumagen?

Sam

Yes only in 3D. And I have the Kodi menu set up in 3D as well, so it shouldn’t be trying to change anything when returning to the menu after pressing STOP.

Oddly if just hit the back button, it returns to the 3D menu just fine, but the movie is still playing. It only happens when stopping 3 content.

This does not occur with 2D content.

And I did try bypassing the Lumagen but that made no difference.

This only started occurring within the past month or so.

I finally found a workaround to this issue. It’s not ideal, but at least I can watch 3-D content again without having to do a hard reboot every time I press the stop button.

I had been using the 3-D UI feature, but I had to switch it to 2-D. I also had to uncheck Lock HDMI HPD. I had it enabled because without it, every time I would return to Vero/Kodi from a different input on my AVR, the UI would change back to 2-D and I would have to change the resolution back to a 3-D mode to get the stereoscopic UI back.

Finally I had to set Delay after change of refresh rate to 10 seconds, otherwise the audio would start way before the video appeared.

Doing all of the above now allows me to press the stop button on a 3-D film without losing signal from the Vero.

I am very sorry to have to lose the stereoscopic UI, for reasons more then aesthetics. When I had the UI set to the exact same resolution and refresh rate as my projector in 3-D mode, switching between the UI and a 3-D film/ was nearly instantaneous because the projector was already in 3-D mode and didn’t have to do any internal adjustments. Now it’s a full 10 seconds of black screen going from the UI to a film and back again.

It’s not a huge deal, but it is disappointing to suddenly lose a feature that was always there before. I know 3-D isn’t tremendously popular, but it is the only reason I bought the Vero V and I hope this can be fixed in a future update.6

Why are you using lock HPD?

This is only needed in some very specific circumstances.

3D is supported on Vero V and better than on 4K/4K+ as it continues to be supported.

I think we need some more details

Cheers
Sam

Because you suggested I do so here:
