USB 2.0 port: USB dongle for remote
USB 3.0 port: OSMC 4 Port USB 3.0 Powered Hub with 4x self powered harddrives (USB 2.0)
Never had any issues with the HUB or the attached drives but recently we’ve experienced a couple of occasions where the drives disconnected out of the blue. Normally flipping the individual power switches on the HUB on & off did the trick to reconnect the drives to the Vero V. Currently however, I cannot get any of the drives connected through the HUB.
I did a quick test and I could connect one of the drives by plugging it into the USB 2.0 port (bypassing the HUB). Connecting the same drive directly into the USB 3.0 port didn’t work, nor can I swap the remote dongle from the USB 2.0 port to the USB 3.0 port. Both aren’t detected. Additionally the HUB is also not detected when plugged into the USB 2.0 port.
Not sure if my USB 3.0 port is broken or whether I need to replace the HUB. Any advice would be highly appreciated.
In case it’s relevant, I bought the Vero V at launch so I got the dongle sent to me separately at a later stage. The USB HUB was purchased from the OSMC store back in 2020.
Also wondering, isn’t the USB 3.0 port supposed to be backwards compatible? Why can I only get the remote dongle or the 2.0 hard drives to work with the USB 2.0 port? That makes me think the 3.0 port on my unit is malfunctioning or broken.
Hi Sam, thanks for confirming. Could you please help me troubleshoot why in my case the receiver doesn’t work on the 3.0 port? In fact it never has, from day 1, it simply doesn’t detect it.
And again, this same port also doesn’t detect any else. The only thing it has ever detected was the OSMC 3.0 HUB, at least up until a couple of days ago. Can I share some logs or try something else?
In the meanwhile I’ve purchased a new HUB that should arrive today. But if that doesn’t work I’d really appreciate some support on this matter.
Unfortunately the new one doesn’t solve anything either. So to break it down:
USB 3.0 port: Both the original OSMC Hub as well as the new one I bought aren’t detected. Nor is the remote dongle or any USB 2.0 drive. However, up until a couple of days ago the OSMC hub worked fine on this port.
USB 2.0 port: Any USB 2.0 drives (without hub), as well as the remote dongle are detected. However, the USB 3.0 Hubs (both the new one as well as the OSMC one) are not detected.
I always thought USB is backwards and forwards compatible
In any case, I can’t use my Vero V right now, I need 2 functioning USB ports (Hub + Remote dongle). Moreover, neither one of them detects my hubs.
No, just that up until a couple of days ago the OSMC hub could be connected to the 3.0 port with 4x 2.0 drives attached without issues. Then for some reason it stopped being detected, but if I plug one of the four drives directly into the 2.0 port it does mount.
I followed the instructions to get logs here. Let me know if they are useful or if I need to follow different steps: https://paste.osmc.tv/aguzewatac
Steps I followed:
Enable debugging
Reboot Vero V twice
Switch on the power switches on the OSMC Hub (and wait until the drives spin up)
Did you find any clues in the logs? Can I perhaps provide additional logs following different steps?
I have always had somewhat “limited” USB functionality (as reported here back in Nov 23). But now that neither port no longer detects my hubs and only one of them detects the remote dongle (the same one that at least detects a single drive without hub), I cannot use my Vero at all
We’re a family of 4 with a heavy daily use of the Vero so any help would be highly appreciated
In case it is helpful the drives are Western Digital Elements Desktop - (3 TB, 3.5", USB 2.0). Nonetheless, they don’t seem to be the problem as far as I can see.
I’m wondering if the hub has somehow caused an issue with the port. The hub and Vero V power supply probably won’t be able to power 4 hard drives on their own, but I am assuming these drives are independently powered.
Do I understand correctly that no device (direct or indirect via hub) works in the USB3 port now?
Yes, that is correct! I Nothing is currently detected on that port (and the only thing I ever got to work on it was the OSMC hub with the drives, i.e. the remote dongle was never detected from day one).
Just to reenforce, the hub also doesn’t work on the USB2 port from some reason as I mentioned here. This goes for the OSMC one, as well as the new one I purchased to rule out a defective hub.
