Vero4K Hot and Rebooting

Hi, my Vero 4K has been sitting ready for use and when I actually get around to watching a film the unit is really hot and it starts boot looping after selecting the Movies section.
Any ideas?

To get a better understanding of the problem you are experiencing we need more information from you. The best way to get this information is for you to upload logs that demonstrate your problem. You can learn more about how to submit a useful support request here.

Depending on the used skin you have to set the settings-level to standard or higher, in summary:

  • enable debug logging at settings->system->logging

  • reboot the OSMC device twice(!)

  • reproduce the issue

  • upload the log set (all configs and logs!) either using the Log Uploader method within the My OSMC menu in the GUI or the ssh method invoking command grab-logs -A

  • publish the provided URL from the log set upload, here

Thanks for your understanding. We hope that we can help you get up and running again shortly.

Thanks, the problem I have though is that the Vero doesn’t stay on long enough to get to the logs. It just reboots

You said it only does it after you enter the movies section, correct. Perhaps you could grab the logs before that. Another option is if it is just Kodi rebooting, and not the operating system, then you should be able to ssh in and do a “grab-logs -A” from the terminal.

I’ll give that a go thanks.
Sorry yeah after I entered the Movies section it got into this boot loop and even after unplugging the power and putting it back in it would boot loop. Will see what it does tomorrow when I have some time to look at it

The Vero is on and running OK this morning. Not running hot either, feels like a normal temperature

I haven’t spotted anything obvious in the logs around 20:04 on the 23rd Dec when it was happening.
I can only think it has got stuck doing something while it was not used and got too hot to run stably

I don’t see anything obvious either. The most helpful may have been the kodi.old.log after a crash so we would have some insight into what exactly it was doing right before it crashed but that log is not present in your upload. We don’t have any environmental issues at play do we (enclosed cabinet, sitting on an AVR or some other device that gets hot, etc.)?

Let’s keep an eye on things.

I suspect this is being caused by a network drop out issue. The connection to my server was lost at some point and then when I come back to the Vero it’s showing a baggage that it can’t find the media and would I like to clean the database. I say no and let it complete. Then i went to play Top Gun Maverick, clicked on the poster to show the info page and it rebooted.
Log taken and updated here

I couldn’t see anything obvious again, but I need to get on to a PC to look at the log properly.
I tried Maverick again after this log upload and it stated playing fine.
The Vero felt like it was running at normal temperature at this point.

It seems to crash out at 10:15:30 today 14 Jan.
Something about a USB error -71?

What USB devices do you have connected?

Sam

Just an IR receiver. Well, I think it’s an IR receiver

Can you try remove that receiver and see if it resolves the issue?

I assume you don’t refer to the included OSMC RF receiver.

Is this the one that came with it. I can’t remember as it was a while ago when I got my Vero

It looks like it. If you plug it in and upload some logs we should be able to confirm.

Sam

I plugged the USB device in and took the logs
http://paste.osmc.tv/wufuvodoxu

So I think this is what happened when I plugged in the USB device

Jan 17 21:28:56 osmc kernel: usb 1-2: new low-speed USB device number 27 using xhci-hcd
Jan 17 21:29:11 osmc kernel: usb 1-2: device descriptor read/64, error -110
Jan 17 21:29:11 osmc kernel: usb 1-2: Device no response

This suggests a problem with the receiver. Is the device stable when it is removed?

Sam

I’ll try it without the receiver for a bit. I guess the original remote doesn’t it (I’ve been using a Logitech Harmony)
