Issue with DTS-HD and Vero4K

I have no solution at this time.

It’s been confirmed that several other devices also have this problem, including a series of Blu-ray players. I’m waiting for Denon to confirm why. This has been acknowledged as a problem by Denon. As this only affects affects one brand of AV receiver, and other devices are also having problems, I hope that we can get some pointers from them.

Hi, I am new here (finished configuring my new Vero yesterday). I see the same behavior: when Vero connected to Denon 1910 via HDMI (and DTS-MA capable receiver option is selected), and I play movie with DTS-MA soundtrack, no audio is heard. Still, AVR detects it as DTS-MA stream and lights its blue HD audio LED.
Sound works as expected when Vero is configured to transcode the audio and for GUI sounds.
When I connect my old Zotac media center computer to the same AVR, using the same cables playing the same movie, everything works fine.
So for now Vero is confined to attic, where there is no AVR and it must transcode everything before sending to TV (and that works OK, including DTS-MA tracks).
Found this topic when trying to solve the problem, looks like it won’t make much sense to open a new thread for it.
If you want logs/whatever information - will be happy to send it, just point me to the links how to capture and upload it. If you feel it is different topic, let me know and I’ll move it to separate thread.

@Dumalkin
Hi Alex,
I have the same issue with you, Denon AVR as well, no cure yet.
If I am not mistaken your AVR model is more than 5 years old and had excellent reviews.
Did you have any similar issues with other devices in the past?
Thanks

@LED123
Hi,
I bought this AVR on September 2009, if I am not mistaken. No issues so far, connected to it different PCs (ASRock 330, Zotec) who were able to bitstream HD audio from Windows/Linux using various players, including Kodi. Works flawlessly. Probably not the best sound quality (but certainly good enough for me), and lacks all new “bells & whistles” like internet radios etc, but I don’t need it anyway so it fits my use-case perfectly.

Hi, Sam! Is there any news from Denon about this issue?
Maybe we should send them a lot of letters from users?

Well, I had my experiences with the Denon support. They’re always very friendly and forthcoming, but when it comes to firmware issues, they often happen to not now anything… “At this time we have no further information on this issue for you. We’re very sorry.” The information Sam got, is already a lot. You wouldn’t get that from the support as a customer ever.

So, Denon’s support is friendly, but not too helpful. And I’m talking about how a customer of one of their high-end AVRs is treated. It won’t be any better for customers of one of their cheapest AVRs…

But the Denon AVRs (various models) tested by users here,
are working perfectly with other devices
running Kodi.
ONLY with the Vero we have issues.
Why Denon is responsible?

That’s why. Some Denon AVRs have problems with some devices. It’s not the fault of the devices, but a matter of combination… That’s what I understood. But it seems pretty clear that it’s “just” a problem with lower end or older AVRs from Denon. Which makes it very unlikely that Denon will do anything about, if it was possible. :expressionless:

could you point an article the Denon admits that some of their AVRs
have issues with a “series of blu-ray players” ?

Hi

Unfortunately I haven’t had much joy with this yet. I have been away for a week and Christmas is looming.

Some of you have mentioned that you have managed to get HD audio to work on other devices so I am still investigating that.

Denon haven’t admitted this. However this has been confirmed by a large number of users on other websites such as AVForums.

Sam

Sry, misunderstood then. But that fits to what I’ve experienced with Denon, too. They are very open and friendly, but it stops right when a firmware issue seems to be around… :see_no_evil:

I have the same problem with a Denon x1300w.
DTS, DTS-HD MA, DTS:X, everything works except DTS-HD HRA.

Played the same file with my old Netgear NeoTV 550 and it’s working perfectly.

I’m really happy with my new Vero4k otherwise, but this needs to be fixed ASAP.

Same here with Denon x3400h. All my files were working with 5 years old htpc.

I am finding DTS-HD MA bitstreaming has issues. Files play fine on an older WDTV media player. Audio never locks on to signal. Dolby TrueHD plays beautifully its just the DTS-HD MA based files that have problems. Going through a Sherbourn Pre/Pro HDMI input set to passthrough signal untouched. To be fair it has been an issue since the Oct update but seems to be happening more often now.

I have sent a PM with testing instructions to a few of you and would appreciate some feedback.

Sam

Hmm issue here as well with DTS-HD HRA, but not with DTS-HD MA.
When I press ‘display’ on my receiver it just says DTS unlike with DTS-HD MA.
I here abit background noise from the track, but it’s super low.

I tested this also on my Shield, exactly the same…

I got an Onkyo TX-RZ820 (2017 model) btw, because I read this post I remembered I had movie with HRA.
If you want me to test, shout as always

I’m also happy to help with testing.

I have the Onkyo TX-RZ810 (2017) and experienced the same problem as you. At the beginning of this thread, Sam said (of the Audio Output cofiuration) to “Change from best match to fixed”. That fixed it for me.

Hello Community,

I am facing same issue with my Yamaha RXV-375. While Dolby True HD plays all DTS-HD Streams are displayed as DTS EX (with sound).

I followed all suggestions but nothing fixed DTS-HD.
My Question ist: Does anyone recommend a AVR which is capable of working with all new HD Streams in combination with the Vero 4K?

I think i need another AVR.

Boris

At least in theory it should work quite, well:

Have you checked for most recent firmware?

If you’re looking for a new AVR anyway, my personal experience with Sony would let me buy an AVR from the same brand in any case. My current Sony STR-DN840 works like a champ with the Vero 4k but for coding formats requiring more than a 7.1 speaker setting like Dolby Atmos it only plays the 7.1 core. As far as I can see the Sony AVRs a re all limited to 7.2 in maximum.
