Issue with DTS-HD and Vero4K

Hi @JimKnopf,

thank you for your suggestion. Yes, DTS-DH worked with my Himedia Q10 like a charm, thus i am wondering what is wrong with my settings.

Regarding your Amp suggestion. This guy plays all new formats ( Dolby Atmos, DTS:X ) and samples down to core ( Dolby True HD or DTS-HD-Ma ) , am I right?

I did some log testing with a DTS-MA Stream

Does this led to the downgrade to DTS?

Sorry to disappoint, but from that part of the log, it’s clear that your Vero 4k sends an 8 channel audio bitstream (RAW channels are bitstream channels). And no 8 channel lossy DTS exists. Your Vero 4k is sending a DTS-HD MA 8 channel stream…

Hi @Chillbo,

so Vero is sending dts-hd to my amp and the amp does somehow only use dts.
Any suggestion or do I need to upgrade my AVR?

It sounds very much like the issue discussed here - where the AVR of most here plays back DTS-HRA as core DTS. But that’s mostly Denon AVRs… Yours seems to have the same problem, but with all DTS-HD formats. You shouldn’t have to upgrade as this shouldn’t happen.

Just one idea: do you have any DSP programs activated? I remember that there were some AVRs which couldn’t apply their DSP programs to lossless sound formats and therefore just played the core audio stream when applying a DSP program. It’s just an idea.

Hi,
in Vero DSP Processing is deactivated . In the AMP i will check.
Should I turn this setting on in Vero?

It should be deactivated. The whole DSP part of Kodi is broken… I was referring to your AVR’s DSP programs.

OK, tested, same outcome. No DTS-HD.

Any AVR suggestion from you @Chillbo which works with HD channels?
I am going to upgrade my equipment

Well, I’m using the Denon AVR-X4300H which works like a charm here. But the X4x00 line is quite a hefty investment… The 9 amps on the other hand (and 11.2 pre out) are pretty amazing for Atmos/DTS:X/AURO 3D!
The Denon AVR-X2400H seems to be working fine, too. Someone posted this on the forum here and I could test my Vero with that model a friend of mine owns. There didn’t seem to be any problems.

Nevertheless it would be amazing, if this issue could be solved on the Vero 4k’s side. It seems to affect more and more devices.

Hi @Chillbo ,

my Problem is solved
I played around with my AMP and set the Input of HDMI to Straight and oh boy now i have DTS-HD-MA and Dolby True HD working like a charm.

I feel so stupid and uneducated with all of these settings… nevertheless I am good now!

Regarding your Suggestion: Yes, heavy investment but i want to upgrade my equipment from current 5.1 to 11.2 with speakers etc.

Will check upon your AVR-X4300H AMP!

@Chillbo, @JimKnopf Great Help from you guys, appreciate that!

Awesome! Good to hear :grinning: Did the DSP setting interfere with the lossless formats?

no, i needed to tell the amp to process “straight” the signal from HDMI. I never touched this setting previously when using my Himedia. Strange enough that Dolby True HD worked, Now both HD Stream are encoded as Bitstream.

Well, “straight” means that the DSP processor is not involved… So, your AVR can’t apply DSP programs to lossless DTS streams without only playing the lossy DTS core. My old Yamaha RX-V373 has the same problem. Yours is the RX-V375 - same generation as my old Yamaha - and therefore has the same issue. It was a limitation of those earlier HDMI AVRs…

From the RX-V375’s manual, under Cinema DSP:

When you play back DTS-HD sources, the DTS decoder is selected automatically.

So, this is indeed unrelated to the issue discussed here, fortunately :joy:

my bad, thank you for pointing that out!

cheers
Boris

Has there been any progress?

I have the same problem with my Denon AVR-X6300H ,The only format I can passthrough is Dolby Digital 5.1 then it says raw. When I play DTS-HD MA master it says FL,FR,FC,LFE,BL,BR,SL,SR

Can you try the staging repository? We don’t expect it to be fixed yet but we would like to verify nothing has regressed

If you need instructions for how to get to staging:

  1. Login via the command line
  2. Edit the file /etc/apt/sources.list
  3. Add the following line: deb http://apt.osmc.tv stretch-devel main
  4. Run the following commands to update: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade && reboot
  5. Your system should have have received the update.

I recommend you edit /etc/apt/sources.list again and remove the line that you added after updating. This will return you to the normal update channel.

Thank you for trying to help me.I don’t have the computer knowledge or the skills to change anything. I probably only going to mess things up . I’m a beginner, this is my first media player that’s not a Apple TV. I bought the vero 4K 2 weeks ago so everything is new to me. Thanks

Don’t worry. It will be rolled out as a normal update soon so you won’t need to do anything
