Kodi sad face crash on updating TVShows

Just my 2 cents on this problem but I had something similar starting last Friday. I have Kodi set to scan for new content when booting up since it is only rebooted occasionally however on Friday it would start to boot up then crash at about the same point (tv shows using the TVDB) in updating the library and then crash and restart and crash again…etc. I was able to catch it between crashes and change the settings do it would not try to update on reboot. Mu fix for this may have happened after they rolled back the changes to the TVDB but by first cleaning the library I was able to then update without a problem. As for changing to the TMDB they do not have the listings for the old series of Doctor Who that the TVDB does, also different naming conventions.

Summary Over the last 48 hours, TheTVDB scraper has introduced a new API for accessing TV show metadata and fanart. A number of applications that utilise TVDB have not been updated to support this new API. Unfortunately, there is also a secondary problem where Kodi can crash currently when using TheTVDB scraper.
