New to the forum and to Vero. This is my first post after exhausting Google and the search function on this forum.
I’m experiencing random freezes on high bandwidth content. It doesn’t happen with every movie and the intervals vary from 15 to 32 minutes before the movie stops, the title and subtile stay on screen for a few secondes and I get thrown back to the movie menu. I can then restart the movie. I’ve tried several things. Such as using nfs fstab mounts instead of using the Kodi nfs functionality. As soon as I hooked up my Vero box I installed all updates.
I also tried “echo 16 > /sys/module/amvdec_h265/parameters/dynamic_buf_num_margin”, but that returns an “access denied” error.
My files are on a Synology Ds718 Nas with two 10Tb Seagate Ironwolf drives. Everything is connected through Cat 6 cable on an Asus 3-router Mesh network consisting of one RT-Ac88U and thwo RT-AC68U routers. I also tried enabling and disabling QOS on the router.
My logs can be found here: https://paste.osmc.tv/ohohosivem. The stream stalled-error pops up a few times, along with a video DB error and DisplayLost.
I used 905 and 912 arm boxes running Coreelec before switching to Vero. With Kodi 17 I did not have these issues.
1 Could you please provide full debug logs, since the bits you have omitted might contain useful information.
2 The correct form of the echo command is:
echo 16 | sudo tee /sys/module/amvdec_h265/parameters/dynamic_buf_num_margin
3 Since you say that the problem doesn’t occur with every movie, do some movies repeatedly exhibit the problem? If so, please provide mediainfo for the example file that appears in the new logs. (You might need to install it: sudo apt-get install mediainfo.)
4 You mention mesh networking and cat 6 cabling in the same sentence. Could you explain your network in a bit more detail, specifically the route vetween the Vero and Syno NAS.
The 60 and 57 retries cause me some concern.
What could be happening here?
The setup:
Main router downstairs, near cable-modem. Cat 6 wired connection to router 2 on first floor which connects to router 3 in the attic (cat6 also). From the third router a 15m cable cat6 cable runs downstairs to my living room and connects to a Linksys 8-port switch. The vero box connects to that switch. Asus Mesh is activated.
In can create a direct connection between NAS and Vero, but it is limited to 100Mb. My synology has two ethernet ports. The other one would still connect it to the network through the main router.
No, there’s some others too. The bourne identity, Bohemian Rhapsody, Rocket man.
Annoying thing is, though, I can see no trigger. No huge jump in screen activity or lots of sounds that could cause a peak in data-usage. My iperf3 results look good, apart from a few retries. It’s annoying. A 905 box running coreelec 9.2 doesn’t seem to have this issue.
Do you mean: select and upload all logs in the “my osmc” - log section and then add the seperate debug log? Because I don’t see a “upload debug” option in the My OSmc log options
Set the GUI to 1080p. You currently have it set to 2160p.
We recommend people with 4K TV’s set their user interface (UI) to 1080p. Kodi’s UI is not optimized for 4K yet and this can put unnecessary demands on your device and can lead to a suboptimal picture quality, as well as potentially cause other issues.
The settings we recommend are as follows…
Settings>System>Display>Resolution> 1920x1080p
Settings>System>Display>Whitelist> (empty)
Settings>Player>Videos>Adjust display refresh rate> On start/stop
Some televisions may also need, or benefit from, the following being set…
With the above settings your UI will be output in Full HD and your 4K content will be output in 4K. If you have any doubt, feel free to upload some logs so we can verify that your settings are indeed correct.
So you disabled sleep on the disks and the NAS itself and there was no change?
Have you tried changing the cable that goes from the Vero to the switch? Have you tried changing which port on the switch the Vero is plugged into (I have seen an individual port go wonky on a netgear 8-port before).
