Raspi3: High bitrate .mkv files freezing

It only seems to happen on the 1080p and 720 high bitrate files. The rest never gives problems.

https://paste.osmc.tv/piduhojiqu

The file plays well, CPU-KODI is under 30% (or so) and suddenly the movie freezes.

I use SMB now but i did try it via NFS and exactly the same happens.

I tried adjusting buffer/ turning of the hardware rendering options but no difference.

Ill add the Media info output under here, hope this is ok, hope you see something because i have ran out of options

Do they play without issue from a USB drive connected directly to the pi?

Hi, yes is does play from USB.

My set up is a WDMyCloudEX2 NAS connected to the router. The name of the router is given by the provider and is commonly known as “Horizon” box.

I just finished a test, clean install with NFS. Freezes more or less the same as SMB, maybe even worse

. The log is here:

Hi,

You should consider adjusting the video cache:

http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO%3AModify_the_video_cache

Thanks Tom.

Hi, I manually edited the advancedsettings.xml (home/osmc/.kodi.userdata/) with your settings.

The movie is now playing different, a little better(longer), it does not freeze/ crash immediately but stops and buffers (round count down ) and you can see it wants to ‘go’ the end result is the same : A big freeze that lasts a minute or little more and then comes back into the menu.

Only after this i know how to save a log so those are my findings for the moment.

Log here under:

https://paste.osmc.tv/kepeliqira1

The log above showed some error concearning the advancedsettings.xml file.

I made another log that, as far as ia can see does not have the error and is maybe more useful. Different movie file but same freeze. Its always the high bitrate ones:

Hi there,

Unfortunately we’ve had to remove your thread from public viewing because it mentions a pirate addon, repository or website. We cannot provide any support for piracy. You should seek support from the developer of the addon or provider of the repo.

To get a better idea of our piracy policy, please see this link here FAQ - OSMC Forums You are welcome to edit your post and request for it to be re-listed at anytime.

Thank you for your understanding

I manually edited the advancedsettings file and made some logs:

https://paste.osmc.tv/kepeliqira

On Tom’s advice i raised the readbuffer to 5. Too bad but stil it freezed, i wish it wasnt , log here under:

Can you remove the reference to software which only exists to enable piracy?

Hi, removed the reference

pirate reference removed by op

Hi,

Have you considered mounting the share via fstab, as these shares tend to have better throughput.

Thanks Tom.

Hi, i did at the time but it seemed to much hassle then.

I need to be root first and then edit the fstab file in /etc

Is there anymore to it then that ?

Hi,

sudo nano /etc/fstab

Tom.

Sorry for off topic! I just wanted to say Very good movie you are trying to watch Takashi Miike is a beast and definitely one of my favorite Asian movie Directors!

Just some advice Don’t watch this movie with a girlfriend unless you know for certain that she’ll enjoy it

Hi,

So i been looking into how to edit my shares in fstab. Since im not sure id like to post my share string and the way i think it should be edited in fstab. Could you look for me if this is correct.

I deceided to do the NFS share variant, i hope you can give me some advice on this since i feel its probably not completely correcnt but i cant really verify this.

My shares:

nfs://192.168.192.18/nfs/NIEUW
nfs://192.168.192.18/nfs/MORE.MOVIES
nfs://192.168.192.18/nfs/Public/FILMS.OLD

mkdir –p /mnt/NIEUW
mkdir –p /mnt/MORE.MOVIES
mkdir –p /mnt/FILMS.OLD

Then create a smb credential on your osmc home
nano /home/osmc/.smbcredentials

With these entries:
username=admin
password=********
domain=WORKGROUP (OR EMPTY ?)

Finally in /etc/fstab
nfs://192.168.192.18/nfs/NIEUW cifs credentials=/home/osmc/.smbcredentials,x-systemd.automount,noauto,iocharset=utf8,sec=ntlm 0 0

nfs://192.168.192.18/nfs/MORE.MOVIES cifs credentials=/home/osmc/.smbcredentials,x-systemd.automount,noauto,iocharset=utf8,sec=ntlm 0 0

nfs://192.168.192.18/nfs/Public/FILMS.OLD cifs credentials=/home/osmc/.smbcredentials,x-systemd.automount,noauto,iocharset=utf8,sec=ntlm 0 0

Its probably this format, since i am mounting the NFS from within OSMC now and this it what i get to see when browsing for it:

nfs://192.168.192.18/mnt/HD_a2/Public/FILMS.OLD cifs credentials=/home/osmc/.smbcredentials,x-systemd.automount,noauto,iocharset=utf8,sec=ntlm 0 0
