Remote not responding / 2 USB ports dead after Aug 25 upgrade

Hi,
After the reboot when the Aug 25 upgrade was installed, remote would not respond - new battery, re-pairing,etc all failed. Finally opened the unit, moved the dongle to an external port, & it worked ok.

The other external port (adjacent to SD card slot) is also dead, tried dongle, & USB keyboard, nothing.

Sam is aware, but just wondering if others have encountered this (have seen some posts on remote issues & dead USB ports), & whether it could be h/w or s/w related?

thanks

Please don’t open anything! Not sure why you would so before I can follow up

Cheers

Sam

Understand that, but it was the last resort - otherwise the box is unusable, unless I used the only remaining active port with my computer keyboard - a work-around at best.

I don’t want to object that in general. I just wonder if you are aware that you can control the Vero with your TV remote.
And also that you can use your phone with Apps like Kore or Yatse to control your Vero in case the provided remote is not working.

thanks - yes, there are options, but it’s frustrating that I’ve lost the use of 2 out of the 3 USB ports, hopefully Sam can find a solution.

Hi - still have the issue, & as I’ve got a lot of drive mappings, etc I really only want to do a re-image if there’s any confidence that it will resolve the issue.
Can you advise if others have had reported issues with USB ports failing, then been able to resolve with a re-image please?

I can’t guarantee that it would help, no.

Hi Sam,

Just wondering where I go from here? Although the unit is currently usable, with the 2 failed ports it’s far from ideal, & I’m unable to re-install images from USB sticks. If necessary, I could send the unit in for further investigation if that would help?

thanks

Sure, you can get in touch with the support address. My understanding from your last post is that you didn’t want to reinstall OSMC. I wasn’t aware that you tried to reinstall.

Can you show a screenshot of your USB/SD on the ticket so I can verify if it was imaged correctly?

Sam

Hi Sam,

I put the info in this post, is that enough:

Re-install of s/w from SD or USB fails? - Help and Support / Vero V - OSMC Forums

Will pick it up tomorrow and let you know

Hi Sam,

Feeling kinda abandoned here, with a semi-functioning unit & seemingly no solution in sight?

Sorry, it’s been busy here.

Did you ever re-install OSMC?

I understand there was a reluctance to do this.

If you get in touch with support then we can check out the options for it.

Sam

If I have missed anything let me know and I can chase this properly tomorrow

Weird but I got this too! Came back from holidays a few weeks ago. Remote stopped working, could still see the blue LED. Tried to re pair the remote, nothing. Changed the battery anyway, checked blue LED still on worked (it does) but still can not re pair the remote. Lucky I can ssh into the box and use the KORE app to control Kodi.

I prob. did a software update at some point.

What do you want me to do/test?

EDIT: I reset the Kodi settings and that didn’t to anything. Just want to confirm this is a Vero V and the remote is the one that came with it and has always worked until recently.

Followed up on your other post.

I bought mine in November 6, 2023 (#46305) so I don’t think it is in support? This must be a software error? The remote was working (still does, blue LED) but the Vero V does not recognise it (USB issue since update same as Mick?)

I believe i may be in the same boat with my Vero V?

I cant say if this happened immediately after the update but I can confirm that the 1 internal and 1 external USB appear to have stopped working.

I use an IR remote so it took me a while to determine that the USB remote stopped working.

However i eventually worked out that it wasnt Re-Pairing and when i opened the vero V and relocated the dongle to the 1 working USB port i was able to pair the remote.

Having seen this thread i re-installed from the SD card OSMC over the weekend and the external USB is still not working.

So i can reinstall OSMC from a specific image if you want me to test.

So it does seem that several of us are experiencing an identical issue, ie 2 out of the 3 USB ports failing. Also seems that a re-install of OSMC does not resolve, does this point to a possible h/w issue?

For info, my box dates to April 2024.

Hi, yesterday my July 2024 vero V hung when transfering files from a sd drive to my nas. After removing the power plug it rebooted and my remote stopped working since. The remote LED is working. Any ideas on how to get this fixed?
