[TESTING] Linux 4.9 kernel and improved video stack for Vero 4K / 4K +

The issue probably is this setting for you: Navigate to GUI Settings->Player->Video. There deactivateSync Playback to Display”.

‘Adjust display refresh rate’ right? Set to always?

Correct. Or ‘Start/stop’ is also fine.

There’s been quite a bit of conversation on this topic re. HDR 2 SDR tone mapping. I’ve also read some similar issues on the Coreelec forums as I have a S912 TV box as well as Vero 4K. I just thought to share that one of the features of the new S905X3 SoC is apparently improved HDR2SDR tone mapping and it is still problematic on the S922X SoC. I’m just sharing for context rather than any opinion.

The S912 uses 3.14 kernel and this kernel has some limitations.

4.9 supports improved tone mapping, so we should be able to get it to work well. The video engine in S905X/D are identical, just clocked higher in X3.

Ok, I uploaded the file. Watch how the credits stutter with kernel 4.9. It starts stuttering when “Joe Russo” is shown in the credits. If you can’t reproduce it, I can send you logs…

I tried it again today with latest kernel update (15th) but it is still stuttering.

Just tested it on my Vero 4K+ with the 4.9 kernel and I get the same issue. No issue playing the file on my Windows PC.

playing fine on my pc, too. And on old kernel it is fine, too.

No, that doesn’t help.

still no picture

Hi Sam, is there anything I can do to support you in finding a solution for the missing WiFi channels in 5 GHz band?

It’s still on my list, don’t worry.

Sam, have you downloaded the videofile I posted? Could you recreate the problem or do you need anything else?

I’ve downloaded it and I can reproduce this issue.

Not just yet. We have some improvements for video playback on the way and I wanted to test against those changes first, but it looks like @tanio99 has beaten me to it.

ok nice.

Hi Sam. Just sharing log from a problem on this thread - https://discourse.osmc.tv/t/video-freezes-but-audio-is-normal/85687. Media info and sample file also on that other thread.
On 3.14 kernel screen shows still pictures every 15-20 seconds with audio running normally.
On 4.9 kernel, it buffers indefinitely. No audio. Only shows running time and OSMC logo animation.

This is the log - https://paste.osmc.tv/ehawaxalun

For me, I didn’t have any buffering file since latest kernel update. Great job, guys.

Guys, can you add support for ftdi USB serial chips like ft232h. Thanks

What CONFIG_ options are needed to enable support?
