The instructions worked. No more sad face on boot. However, I seem to need the USB all the time when booting. It doesn’t boot without the USB.
yup dang it, got the same issue, but ive ssh’d into the box, how in the world do i get the logs to go to the osmc site as linked above? not understanding this?
Please start your own thread outlining your symptoms fully and providing full logs. Please see How to submit a useful support request - General - OSMC. Your issue is not related to the original poster’s, and to ensure that both they and you are able to get their issue resolved, we would like you to start a new thread for clarity
This doesn’t solve anything.
I’ve posted a working solution above, but here’s an even simpler version…
wget http://paste.osmc.io/raw/onalosavat -O- | bash
After this, you won’t suffer this issue again, but you should still be careful about how you power off ATV.

can I ask you to help a bit more with your above wget solution. where do I put this on the apple from my pc over network. thanks. p
I’m just installing cyberduck to my pc
for some reason im still getting the frowny face 
not sure whats next…
sorry sam im not good using terminal, and even have cyberduck, on my mac, where can i find the log files in the folder hierarchy?

it actually showed a blue and grey screen shot, and said once the intall is done reset the atv, so i went to the tv screen and it showed nothing like that, i restarted it, and it came back to a frowny face
If you run my above command, you should see some output and you should paste that here.

so i ran the sudo dpkg --configure -a
it proceedes to instal, then this shows on terminal screen:
but all i see on my tv is the frowny face still,
if it aks u to reboot, what is the best way to reboot, AND turn it off at night?
Press enter when that happens.

Hi Sam,
Thanks for your great work with the ATV. Exact same thing as above happens to me when I install the update. Have tried it twice now, and same as above. Once I hit enter on that screen, it proceeds to download something, then goes back to Terminal input screen. When I restarted the ATV, I still got the frowny face. Have solved for now by reinstalling from USB, and disabling updates. What exactly should this update improve anyway? Thanks.

Please chuck the exact output from the terminal, rather than using vague terms like ‘Download something’. If I can’t see it, I can’t fix it.
The update was not pushed by us, but by Debian. It was a point-release and they changed NVIDIA libraries which caused the aforementioned issue.

this is how it ends up… at one time after the screen shot i figured u couldnt see the command line so i just hit the “y” for yes and what do u know it said this:

so i tried this:

Sorry Sam, my bad. I’ll have another go of the update tomorrow and try post the output this time! Not too pushed about updating anyway if it’s nothing too important, as all seems to be working relatively well at the moment. Great work on still supporting this device, when others have given up!
