Vero 2 freezing (on black screen) when i click "stop" to exit a show/movie

My PC (192.168.1.1) has all my media on it.

I’m using Putty on my PC to do all of this.

i’ve just tried logging in to my vero using putty again and it says “updating APT cache. Please be patient.”

You can press CTRL + C to skip that. It’s something I added to update APT cache on first login, as users were frequently logging in to follow some tutorial and run some apt-get install command without running apt-get update first, then wondering why it didn’t work.

Okay, but it also seems that DHCP is configuring this PC as a DNS server, as your first output of resolv.conf showed /etc/resolv.conf to have 192.168.1.1 as the default nameserver. This suggests the PC is functioning as a DNS server, and possibly some sort of gateway.

What does /sbin/ifconfig show on the Vero 2, and what does it show on the Pi 2?

i’m not sure what my rpi2’s IP Address is and it isn’t appearing in the ARP table on my router gateway at the moment so i’ll have to check that physically on the rpi when i get home.

i’ll check what it has and try matching the settings on the vero to it if it differs.

i must have got the rpi and vero confused (i switch hdmi cable back and forth) and tried to set the MAC address for the vero to 192.168.1.4 which is actually the rpi2!

I’ve now set the mac address for the rpi2 to its expected and set the mac address for the vero so 192.168.1.6

I ran

That looks much more healthy.

Can you try streaming some video now and let me know how that works? Also make sure you check for updates via My OSMC. I’m not sure how long your network hasn’t been working for but you’ll want to get the latest updates

it updated 1-2 days ago.

Just went to play finding dory, clicked “ok” on remote to bring up UI. clicked the “audio” button (wanted to turn passthrough back on, which is another issue) and the UI froze again.

clicked stop and nothing happened. eventually a few minutes later the UI just dissapeared and i could click stop.

  • Can you update the SMB share for Music too, as I can see some errors there and it’s still using ‘Jarrad-Desktop’ instead of an IP address

ok i’ve done latest update and moved my music over to IP address SMB as well.

neither local nor network are causing issues atm. hopefully its not just intermittently working. i’ll keep you posted if it pops up again and let you know if i go for a while if it doesnt so this can be marked as solved.

I only can recommend once more, do a longer term (1 hour) iperf test between your PC and OSMC. Maybe with two different sessions one with iperf3 -t 3600 -c <192.168.1.1> from OSMC to the PC and at the same time one with iperf3 -t 3600 -c <192.168.1.6> from your PC to OSMC. You would need to start the server then first on your PC and OSMC with iperf3 -s

Sorry my mistake, I first wanted to write but then I digged out the info from the log so the commands would be.

  1. Window on PC iperf3 -s
  2. Window on Vero iperf3 -s
  3. Window on Vero iperf3 -t 3600 -c 192.168.1.1
  4. Window on PC iperf3 -t 3600 -c 192.168.1.6

As you might loose connectivity to the Vero during the test I suggest to execute the commands in seperate “screens”. Therefore install the screen application with sudo apt-get install screen first

Well I would have guessed you did that two weeks ago when I recommended it

Obvisouly you need to install iperf on the Vero sudo apt-get install iperf3 and also on your PC iPerf - Download iPerf3 and original iPerf pre-compiled binaries

I mean a “terminal window” which e.g. your Putty session is one such terminal window.

yes, therefore your results looks correct.
But as mentioned it might break after a while so run it longer as you planned.
Also remember to have a second one running for the other direction as iperf is unidirectional.
