This is my info at the moment.
Idling with Estuary 1080@50, screensaver enabled: 79c.
Seems like Mimic made the little box a bit too warm, I wonder what the big difference is.
Trying to get the standard Kodi skin to look like Mimic but it’s not the same perfection
I made some fixes available in Slack but they need testing
Sam
I will add my bits, just for comparison. I am using Mimic skin + Dim screensaver and have idle temps aroud 60-70C and around 70-80C while playing 1080p HEVC. In Kim’s case, maybe clean reinstall of OSMC might help.
I’ve been experimenting with different skins to see if any others behave the same as Mimic and to see if screensavers have any effect.
The basic setup is:
GUI: 1080@50
Plex server on Intel NUC, files on HDD’s attached to router, PKC on Vero
Ambient temp: 24-26c
Measurements via SSH script mentioned in this thread
Test done on different times of day during several days
Vero 4k Idling in Movies main screen, skins on pretty much default settings
Results (all temps in celsius):
OSMC
Idle: 68
Dim: 68
Black: 68
Mimic
Idle: 85
Dim: 95
Black: 92
The only skin that pops up PKC settings every time the skin reloads
Estuary
Idle: 64
Dim: 68
Black: 71
Amber
Idle: 70
Dim: 70
Black: 68
Arctic Zephyr
Idle: 74
Dim: 73
Black: 73
My take on this? Mimic is graphically heavy for some reason and it polls the library/Plex server often or wrong, which causes additional stress and temps.
@sam_nazarko had made some changes already, I’m happy to test them if you want.
The changes didn’t give the results we expected, so I think I’m going to have to do a more extensive re-write.
We do know exactly how to address this issue however, so I will update this thread in due course.
Just avoid Mimic for the next week or so if you can
Cheers,
Sam

I did do a reinstall of osmc before to see if some addons where the problem like Janitor but quickly after the clean reinstall the crashes happened again. I just came back from holiday and I’m using the standard kodi skin at the moment.
I will let you guys know if the vero crashes again or not but I still think Mimic pushed it too far for reasons unknown so far
No crashes for 3 days and temperatures between 65 and 75 degrees with estuary ( standard kodi skin)
This was while I moved the vero back inside the cabinet with less ventilation than when it was out in the open fully ventilated with Mimic and back then it was still crashing and not while back in less open space.
Skin is ok for now but I liked Mimic much more, too bad it behaves like that.
It’s still being worked on and we will fix this.

i just noticed mine was also running at about 100C at idle too and i haven’t got any skins on it.
sits atop the table but that’s about it.
That doesn’t sound right at all. So your device is 100c on the OSMC home screen?
my mistake, that was after a few minutes after a video.
i was near the tv when i placed my hand on the vero 4k and was surprised it was that hot. went to check the temps and saw it was at 100c. that’s when i came to look for “thermal” on the forum coz i wanted to figure out what’s the expected operating temps for these babies. found this thread.
i’ve just powered it back up and it’s idling at 64c. ambient temp is about 31c.
For those experiencing problems with the Mimic skin, can you try:
wget "https://collab.osmc.tv/s/6qL578lddBQnwfQ/download" -O update.deb
sudo dpkg -i update.deb
reboot
I’m aware that temperature information won’t display correctly in this build currently.

Just installed this, let’s see in the morning how it has behaved. Can you shed light on what’s causing Mimic in particular to do this? And what’s different about this build?
One bug/change that happened that on reboot it disconnected me from WiFi. Disabling and re-enabling the WiFi adapter from MyOSMC fixed this.
Known issue – being looked in to. It comes from some WiFi improvements requested by another customer re. treatment of hidden SSIDs.
Yes.
Mimic thrashes the GPU. While we provisioned for CPU based throttling, we didn’t do so for GPU just yet. This adds some basic governing, but may not be sufficient. It’s certainly a step in the right direction however.

No crash during the night, used to do it every night with the “normal” build, so off to a good start.
Vero in the same place as last pictures (on top of TV stand), about 25c ambient.
Thanks – there are some more improvements to make but hopefully this is a step in the right direction.
I would appreciate it if others could also test
Sam
Does this help for people with the default Kodi or OSMC skin?
It will give you lower temperatures, and I’d like some feedback to know I’ve not broken anything
Sam
Hi Sam,
Just tested this on my vero4ks using osmc skin and no issues to report.
Thanks Tom.
Sweet, always good, will try tomorrow if I can find the time.
